Let's Talk About Listening

"Let's talk about listening. There are two types of listening: the one that you must do and the one you better not. The first one is pretty basic: listen more than you speak because "we have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak" (Epictetus). Today I want to focus more on the one that you don't have to listen to. You may say: "What do you mean? You always need to listen to everybody!" My answer is: "No!" What I mean by that is that you don't have to listen to people who tell you: "You should not do it!" "You should not go to school!" "You should not learn the language - it's too expensive!" "You should cancel it," etc. (everything was told to me). You must never listen to people who are trying to destroy your dream even if it's unintentional. They don't know you fully. Only you do! So, why should you listen to people who know nothing about your vision, your plan, your intentions, etc.? You shouldn't! So many people say that if they listened to all the naysayers, they would never be where they are today. So, why should you? I don't discredit good advice that you know is good. But if something people say just doesn't feel right, don't listen because on whether you listen or not depends your future. So many people told me don't do certain things along the way: even my own mother and, especially, my ex-husband. Every time I didn't listened, but listened to my inner voice, I won big; I accomplished extraordinary things like winning awards or, most importantly, helping a lot of people at the same time. So, the next time you question in your mind what people tell you, it's your inner voice is telling you: "You know what? It may not apply to me. I should respectfully disregard this one, thank them, but tell them if needed: "Trust me on this one. Everything will be ok!"" Here we go, this is my advice on listening to you. Tell me about your experiences when you didn't listened to someone and it turned out to be the best choice you could ever have made for yourself. Will you? Best of luck to you!" Marina Amdream.
